Art Print – The Best of Michelin Man

39,00

This MICHELIN-signed poster was used in Europe. Its lettering style prefigures the future choice of the brand’s typographic characters. In the early 20th century, René Vincent (1879-1936), like the best illustrators of his generation, was commissioned by leading French industrialists keen to raise awareness of their product ranges through the use of advertising posters. Michelin was one of them. In late 1913, it asked the artist to illustrate the “rescue of a family in tyre distress”.
The Michelin Man, while continuing to nonchalently smoke a cigar, offered “the best of himself”, in other words, a Michelin tyre.
